About Sonja
I am a licensed clinical social worker in Texas and Kansas. I specialize in working with adolescents and adults who struggle with anxiety/depressive disorders, PTSD/trauma, and grief/loss. I also work with couples to repair and build connections, creating a healthy partnership. I believe relationships are the foundation necessary for healing and provide safe connections with clients. I am passionate about this work because I find joy in helping others grow and strengthen themselves.
I have extensive training in neuropsychology and trauma-informed practices, and understand how life events impact growth and development. I take a whole-person approach, addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of each client. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, mindfulness, and psychoeducation to enhance growth and understanding.
My clients guide the therapeutic process and feel empowered to make the choices they feel best meet their needs. Together, we will focus on developing skills to create your optimal life experience. Reach out today; I am here to work with you.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I began my career as a social worker driven by a passion to advocate for individuals and groups who are often overlooked and under served. Through my education, I developed a love for psychology and human behavior in the social environment. My early work in residential child care led to experiences providing experiential, equine assisted and individual counseling to youth. This work included families because to treat a child, one must treat the family. As my career progressed, I worked with advocacy groups in foster care, runaway youth, homelessness and human trafficking. This led to working with adults and addressing trauma and neglect. Stepping into private practice allows me to directly impact healing and change. I believe individual change brings social change.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients who experience mood instability and trauma responses which lead to maladaptive behavior patterns, such as panic attacks, insomnia, overthinking and depression.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I tell all my clients to trust the journey. Healing and change are not immediate, but like any other exercise, with practice and time, lasting results come.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In our first few sessions you can expect to feel safe and welcomed. Together, we will develop a change plan tailored to your individual needs. We will measure progress incrementally to build your confidence in skills learned and reinforce utilization.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I believe in treating the whole person, which is why spirituality and mindfulness is encouraged in my practice. I also love how neuro-psychology is giving evidence to what was once theory. We know there is research that shows how these tools, guided imagery, relaxation, positive thinking, actually change the brain and strengthen neuroplasticity.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I believe the client is the driver; I am simply the navigation system. I encourage clients to inform me of their desired outcomes and ask them to help create personalized interventions.
