Why did you decide to become a counselor?
Throughout my life, I have always been helping others in various ways and have achieved great pleasure. When it came to choosing a career, it was easy for me because by being a professional counselor, I can support and help clients find a greater sense of well-being and resilience.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with children and families dealing with behavioral and relational issues. Often these issues stem from underlying depression, trauma, anxiety, or grief and loss.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with young adults and couples.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that they are experts and must recognize their ability to overcome challenges. Yes, sometimes they have to have someone to be that "light on the path" to help them find their way, but we should never forget the strengths we have within and our ability to be resilient.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I choose to practice at Thriveworks for the opportunities it offers me as a practitioner to work with a more diverse community.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by the positive energy that is out in the world and by my family. Unfortunately, for many, it is dampened by the conflicts, media, and political forums in society today. But, I am also inspired that I can make a difference.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
They can expect a professional, confident counselor who listens and clarifies what I understand the client is saying, so I effectively understand the client's wants and needs. With that done accurately and precisely, an acuarate treatment plan can be implemented.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first individual session, I want to build a positive and trusting rapport with the client.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
That I am caring, compassionate, trustworthy, and optimistic.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I play with my pets or just snuggle with them. I enjoy watching a movie and reading a book. When I have an opportunity, I play with my grandkids; we do a lot of sleepovers, crafts, and adventures.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
The one thing that I think defines me is my word. I believe that keeping my word maintains honesty, integrity, and loyalty in my life.
