About Paula
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) with 7 years of experience supporting individuals and couples through a wide range of mental health concerns. I work with clients experiencing anxiety, depression, stress, relationship challenges, substance use concerns, and the effects of trauma. I also support individuals affected by substance use and domestic violence, as well as couples seeking to strengthen communication and emotional connection. I have experience working in both agency and private practice settings and am especially passionate about supporting individuals navigating cultural identity and relational dynamics.
I earned my master’s degree in professional counseling from Texas State University in San Marcos. I often draw from dialectical behavior therapy and mindfulness-based approaches to support emotional regulation and relational growth.
I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered. Together, we will identify your needs, clarify your goals, and build practical skills that align with your values. I invite you to schedule an appointment so we can begin working toward meaningful and lasting change.

"As a first-generation Hispanic therapist, I understand the stress and hardships that come with navigating life within 2 cultures and how forging your own path has unique challenges."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I always felt like people connected easily with me and wanted to share their troubles with me and as I reflected on my life, I learned that I wanted to grow those skills and those connections in a way that I could help others. The psychology of the world was always interesting to me, so I wanted to put it into practice and help one person at a time.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with clients that have goals in mind. The journey might be confusing at times, but I connect better with those who have a sense of what the end goal is so that we can collaborate effectively and keep the finish line in sight.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
That not every therapist will be the right fit for you, nor will their therapeutic approaches be what you need for your particular concerns. Therapy will not always be about finding solutions but rather about sitting with the uncomfortable. And that nothing changes quickly.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
That at first it feels good to get everything off your chest that you have bottled up but that as we continue to work together, we will focus on the main goal for continued progress.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My Hispanic background and growing up in Florida helped me to become more empathetic to different cultures by identifying their specific needs. I have also learned a lot about substance use issues from my earlier internship experiences that have led me to greater advocacy for healthier living practices in my community.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I meet my clients where they are. Their goals are their own and the most important part of it is that they align with their values. I take feedback from them and if something is not working then we try something new.
