Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I became a counselor because I went through a very difficult phase in my 20s and benefitted tremendously from a great counselor. She helped me to see, among other things, that my struggles up to that point could be redeemed by helping others in the ways that I had been helped myself.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are ready to get their hands dirty, who possess an inherent curiosity about themselves and the world around them, and who truly and deeply desire to live up to their fullest potential.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who, for whatever reason, feel stuck; they have tried this and that, and it has not worked, but they are not ready to throw in the towel.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that there is good in this world, and it is worth fighting for.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks offers a nice blend of individual freedom for its counselors in such a way that frees them up to focus solely on their client's wellbeing, while at the same time offering a strong support structure.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by people who own up to their imperfections and mistakes, and who dedicate themselves to self-improvement.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect our first session to be pretty easy. I want to get to know them, and I want them to have the chance to get to know me. We will discuss what the client hopes to get from our work together, how we will go about achieving those goals, boundaries, and expectations.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
My goal the first session is for my client and I to be on the same page about why we are meeting together, what counseling is (and is not), and to have begun developing the trust that on which the therapeutic relationship lives or dies.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Clients should know three things about me: 1.) I will always be honest with them; 2.) that honesty may not always be easy to hear; and 3.) I will only ever act with their best interests in mind.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my spare time I try to spend time with friends and family, mess around with my dog, workout, play guitar, read.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am a huge nerd, like, writing in dwarvish runes just for fun-level nerdery.
