About Jennifer
Jennifer Porter is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with years of experience. She works with children, teens, adults, and families. Jennifer specializes in treating issues related to family dynamics, relationship issues, stress, depression, anxiety, life transitions, parenting issues, children's behavioral and academic issues, and more.
Jennifer earned her Master's degree in Professional Counseling from Lindenwood University, and is a Registered behavior therapist (RBT). She also incorporates cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), applied behavior Analysis (ABA), play therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and more.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
God blessed me with the gifts of empathy and communication. Counseling has been the perfect fit for my gifts.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Adolescents and teens, families with children on the Autism spectrum.

Flexibility and marketing advantages; it works well with my busy single mom life.

What inspires you?
Mindset changes, when the light goes on and you can see and feel the change.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
For my young ones, some get to know you games. I will be sitting on the floor playing and finding out how to best help in this session.

A bit about them and what they want to get out of coming to see me.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I have a background in lots of things so that we can find what will work best for each client.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Hang out with my kids, exploring and enjoying each other.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Faith, my faith in God's plan and shining his light. My nickname has been Sunshine girl since I was 14, and I absolutely love it.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
Just recently having a breakthrough with attachment. child came in not understanding what a parent is, having a very unhealthy view of a parent. no idea what it meant to be connected. to 2 months later, being able to express his connection to foster parents and siblings and the desire to want to stay connected.
