About Herbert
Herbert “Herb” Goldsmith is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor with over 25 years of experience specializing in the treatment of emotionally/behaviorally disturbed adolescents, their families, and young adults. With a career spanning various therapeutic and programmatic roles, Herb brings deep expertise in addressing complex clinical presentations, including pervasive developmental disorders and intellectual disabilities.
Herb earned a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Towson University. He has demonstrated that he meets the needs of clients by being non-judgmental and offering a range of techniques to assess each case, thereby providing the best possible services. Herb also actively reassesses each case during treatment.

Get to know Herbert
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I initially wanted to be a licensed counselor while working at the Maryland Training School for Incarcerated Youth. I wanted to help these most challenged youth in the juvenile justice system.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have successful treatment outcomes for youth and families seeking assistance to help their children. I also have success with young adults transitioning from High School graduation to becoming independent.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with clients who assert themselves.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Asking for help is one of the most critical coping skills.

What inspires you?
I am inspired by helping clients obtain their goals and improving their well-being.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I am warm, caring, and compassionate. I strive to be non-judgmental and understanding.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I will provide an efficient Intake/Assessment to ensure your needs are assessed and your strengths are recognized.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
Clients have important rights, including assertive communication and free expression of their thoughts/feelings.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy spending time with our family and friends, playing the harmonica and guitar, fishing, writing Haiku, reading, origami, completing social research projects, reading research articles, watching movies and documentaries, listening to music, and staying up-to-date with the news.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I truly care about people and believe all have a voice.
