Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I first became a social worker because I was interested in social justice and social welfare. I wanted to protect the vulnerable and help those in need find the best life possible for themselves. However, personal adversity caused me to seek deeper into the social work dynamic and choose to become a clinical social worker in order to help individuals learn how to build healthy relationships, promote their overall well being and learn invaluable skills that would better their daily lives. I love seeing the growth and change process happen in real time and I love seeing people's lives become enhanced so they can truly thrive. Now, as a clinical social worker, I am doing my best to help everyone find their most enriched and cherished life possible.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work with clients best who understand the change process and want to better their lives. Something I've learned about counseling over the years is that the process works if you are invested in it and give it your all. I want to work with clients who really put effort in to help their lives.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with clients who identify as LGBT since I have worked with several in the past and this is a cause dear to my heart. I am also interested and excited to work with people with depression and anxiety as I have worked with this population most in the past.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that the therapeutic process is one of support, empathy and connection. As a clinician, I am here to help guide you on your journey as a support person in your corner and I will always provide the best empathy possible for you.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because I believe in its mission to help people thrive and build their best life possible in which they are truly excelling and building a life they are proud of.
What inspires you?
I am most inspired by the amazing social workers in my field that truly give their all for their clients and the populations they serve. Brene Brown, PHD, LMSW is a big inspiration of mine that I tend to talk about a lot in my practice. I am also very personally inspired by my incredible partner. After conquering an illness he is thriving in his personal life and I couldn't be more proud of him. I am also inspired by my amazing support system who puts work in on themselves daily. My mom inspires me daily by making incredible decisions for her personal life and always being supportive.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our first session, I want you to be your authentic self. I always tell my clients "the more we know, the more we can help." I want you to have a space where you can feel safe, included, appreciated and seen. I care deeply about making my session space safe and comfortable. I provide a lot of empathy, so just come as you are and we'll get started wherever you are.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
The first session is really about laying down the groundwork for the work you want done. Setting out intention, goals, and the direction you want the sessions to take. You are the owner of your own story so this is where you begin to write it.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I am very empathetic, kind and caring. All I ask is that you come as you are and we'll go from there. I am not going to push you past your comfort zone, and I want you to feel as welcome as possible.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
During my time off, I love to spend time with my support system and my incredible partner. I also love horror movies, genres, and games. I know a lot about the horror industry and enjoy learning more about the process of making these movies and products in my spare time. I also love to travel and go new places. I went to Minnesota and Arkansas several times last year and love to explore new places.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I consider myself a very good friend, both to my romantic partner as well as my network of close friends. I will always be there to support and love the people in my corner unconditionally. I am a very nurturing spirit and I put quality time above other aspects of my life in order to give back and love on the people who love me most. I tend to believe this translates well into my therapy practice.
