Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
My counseling journey began with a desire to help people struggling with mental health issues to understand that they are not alone, nor should they be expected to “snap out of it.” While in graduate school, my 11-year-old daughter Brooklyn died unexpectedly. Like many of you reading this, I reached out for help. My experience with traumatic loss and the counselor who helped me navigate a once dark and rocky path ignited a passion in me: to provide support to those who are facing their “Brooklyn” moment.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Whether you are struggling with addiction, mental health issues, or life challenges, choosing to see a counselor shows how brave you are. You are not damaged and not alone- our job is to help you remember that!
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to work at Thriveworks because of the support they offer clinicians on their team. They take care of us so we can offer the best care to you.
What inspires you?
Stories of resilience inspire me, and my work has allowed me to see firsthand how people have turned hardships into opportunities. Hearing these stories has also helped me see how far I have come- and what I have overcome- in my life.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my spare time, I volunteer as a peer support specialist and advocate for bereaved parents. I also love traveling and learning about other cultures. I am a self-proclaimed history nerd, so I enjoy watching documentaries and always have a book to read.
