Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I was surrounded by people who saw my gift of listening, being empathetic, non-judgmental, and offering a different perspective on various life situations. I was told by many, including people I didn't know that I was very easy to talk to; and they were often surprised at how easy it was to share with me without even trying. So I followed where God was leading me and decided to pursue a career in mental health.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Clients I work best with are those that are looking for change, looking for a new perspective, and open to receiving what life's journey has for them.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most excited to work with clients who are excited to embark on a journey of change and healing; and who are ready to do the work.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
The power for change and healing is possible for all those who seek it and it is located within them; we as therapist are just here to support the process and assist in making the path more clear. Also that change can't come without some challenges. Challenges are a part of the process and it is not meant to feel comfortable at all times. However, in those challenging times is where learning, growth, clarification, and healing can occur. In order to find more peace, must go through some challenges.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I have received an overwhelming feeling of confidence and positive energy since the initial interview. The opportunity for growth and development was very intriguing. Thriveworks seems like a company that is not only supportive of their clientele, but of their employees and providers. That makes for good business and employment longevity. I also like the versatility to be hybrid and have an office to work in fairly close to home while also the ability to work from home.
What inspires you?
Anything that brings joy, peace, and positivity towards myself and others inspires me. I love it when clients have that "Ahh haa" moment because of something I said they never thought of before; that inspires me.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Someone who is open, non-judgmental, a great listener, empathetic, and maybe a homework assignment depending on what is shared.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
The important thing to accomplish in a first session is building rapport. The client should feel a level of comfort with the therapist; with a desire to continue the process and feel as though something small was accomplished in the session.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Clients should know that I lead with compassion and I'm going to be their biggest cheerleader of support in this process.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Love having fun or engaging in good mind stimulating conversation with friends and family and learning new things and about different cultures. Love to eat and try new foods. Game nights, home cooked meals, going out to dinner, movies, concerts, theatre, traveling, karaoke, escape rooms, wine tours, painting...
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I look for the joy, humor, and peace regardless of circumstances.
