I’m Angie Munsey, an LPC-Associate with counseling experience in private practice, middle school, and high school settings. I work with individuals 11 and older, couples, and families navigating anxiety, depression, grief/loss, life transitions, burnout, caregiver fatigue, and relationship challenges. I also help clients identify and work through people-pleasing, perfectionism, and overcontrol. My clients seek to understand recurring patterns, communicate more clearly, build stronger boundaries, and make confident decisions that reflect their values and strengthen their relationships.
My style is warm, direct, curious, and collaborative, with room for humor. I integrate CBT, ACT, and SolutionFocused Therapy with art and play therapy techniques. Together, we’ll explore patterns, consider new perspectives, and practice skills to help you respond intentionally and make changes that reflect your values.
You don’t have to do it alone, and you don’t have to have it all planned out. I’ll meet you where you’re at. Together we’ll decide what happens next. If you’re scared, that’s okay. Doubtful? That’s okay too. Do it scared. Do it doubtful. Schedule the appointment. All you have to do is start.
"Having navigated loss and major life transitions myself, I know you don’t need to have everything figured out to move forward, find clarity, recognize patterns, learn to trust yourself, or begin making confident decisions that enhance your life."
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I committed to becoming a mental health counselor for a number of reasons. I’m fascinated by us humans. I love when I’m standing in line or ordering food and suddenly find myself smack dab in the middle of listening to a stranger’s life story. I love that people can sense that they can talk to me. I’m also fascinated by how we can learn, grow, and change the rules we’ve created about ourselves and life. Counseling has certainly helped me recognize my own patterns and see things differently, and I have experienced how powerful those lightbulb moments can be. Seeing clients experience them for themselves is what keeps me in this field. I love helping others discover new perspectives and possibilities for themselves.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work well with people navigating life changes and all the emotions that can come with them, as well as those experiencing burnout at work that’s seeping into their personal life, or personal challenges that are affecting work. I enjoy working with clients who are curious about themselves and open to exploring new perspectives. However, I’ll meet you where you are. Show up skeptical. Show up scared. Just show up.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Therapy isn’t something you have to win at or be perfect for. It’s really a chance to learn more about yourself, understand yourself better, and explore your place in this world. It can be challenging, but it can also be fun. Of course, therapy looks different for everyone, but you’re joining a great club of people who are figuring things out, have decided they don’t have to do it alone, and know they’re worth the time.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Our first session is a conversation about what’s going on in your life and what brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about what you’d like to work on, and if you’re not sure how to put it into words, I’ll help you sort through it. We can also discuss your past experiences with therapy and possibly whether there’s a particular approach you’d like to explore. In the early sessions, we’ll spend time getting acquainted and deciding how to work toward your goals together. We’ll also explore what’s working for you that you may not want to change.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I practice what I preach. I have a therapist, and have had one throughout my life when I’ve needed support. I value authenticity, understanding, kindness, flexibility, a willingness to learn new things, and resilience. I like people and want the best for them. My work is grounded in unconditional positive regard: accepting and valuing you as a person while being honest with you and supporting the changes you want to make. I also really value humor and appreciate being able to laugh together along the way. Learning to laugh at oneself is a great skill!
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I see clients as the experts on their own lives. I take time to understand your values, goals, experiences, and what helps you learn. Some people benefit from practical exercises, role-play, or art and play techniques; others need time to talk things through. We’ll discuss what feels helpful and what doesn’t, and I’ll adjust my approach as we go. Throughout our work, I’ll help you recognize your own strengths and judgment so you can build trust in yourself and make choices that reflect what matters to you.
