Hello, my name is Allison. I am an LPC licensed in Texas. I received my Master of Arts in Counseling at Houston Baptist University in 2019. While gaining my experience hours, I worked in both the hospital and private practice setting at the height of the pandemic. I have served patients in both the inpatient and outpatient setting, both adolescents and adults across the lifespan, with mental health and substance abuse treatment. I have experience helping those with trauma, chronic health issues, LGBTQ+ and cultural concerns, and those struggling with recent life changes such as divorce, loss of a loved one, etc.

I utilize the DBT framework as it addresses changes clients may want to make as well as sharing skills that will help with acceptance, and the irreverent style still provides empathy and care allowing for clients to feel heard and not talked at. I also utilize CBT, ACT, EMDR, as well as addressing the mind-body connection.

I know how it feels to be looking for answers, to need a safe space to be yourself and figure out life's path. I hope to be part of that place for clients and look forward to being a part of your journey.

"I hope to utilize my cultural perspective and life experience to guide clients through life's challenges and share with them the tools needed for recovery and to live life to the fullest."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

Since I was small, I wanted to be able to help others with my own strength and abilities. As I grew up, I found that my strengths were in empathetic listening and problem solving. My unique qualities of strong recall and sense of humor add to letting clients know I see them, I hear them, and I know they are people first.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with clients who want to live life to the fullest. Learning coping strategies, approaching their problems from new perspectives, and integrating all aspects of their experience is a challenge. But if they are ready, I'm ready with them.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I want clients to know that humans were made to make mistakes. This is how we learn and how we move forward. Our bodies and minds are built with resilience. Therapy is how we unlock our potential for recovery.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In my first session with clients, I want to know what your experience with therapy is. I want to know how you conceptualize what you are dealing with. In the early stages, we will formulate treatment goals that are easy to track and easy to adjust if needed. I want to focus on what you already have, your current coping methods, your support system, and what vision of a more full life you see for yourself.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

I know just how important a strong support system can be to helping with recovery. Support also comes in many forms, and finding what works best for each client is essential. And, if I can find any way to integrate animals, entertainment and humor, and hobbies into treatment, I will!

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

By getting to know clients, I can see what their needs may be based on how they learn, what their motivation style is, and what they already bring to the table. I listen to what clients tell me works and make adjustments accordingly. After all, it's your therapy.
