John Barsotti is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Tennessee, and he has been practicing therapy for the past 8 years. John's counseling style is non-judgemental, empathetic, and compassionate. He uses a holistic approach to help clients identify their strengths to help manage a balance of self-care, mindfulness, and well-being. John uses several different evidence-based approaches such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy. Using a client-centered approach, the focus is to identify and implement techniques to help clients manage their needs and goals.
John completed his Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences at the University of Memphis ('09). Then, he completed his Master of Social Work, also at the University of Memphis, in 2015. John has worked in community, residential, and outpatient settings. There is a wide variety of diagnoses he's worked with, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, child and family issues, anger management, and substance abuse problems. Trauma and abuse are other areas in which he's treated.
John is hopeful to help those trying to manage mental health disorders, whether mild, moderate, or severe. He believes the therapeutic process is valuable in making positive changes in pursuit of both short and long-term goals. Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I think I like to see positive changes in people and understand I can be an healthy impact on that process.

Clients that ready for change and willing to challenge themselves.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Clients going through a life stressor whether it's college, a relationship, job / career, or environmental change.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Patience is progress.
What inspires you?
Family, friends. Being out in nature or with positive supports. Trying to better myself & find balance in life.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
First sessions are typically laid back, getting to know the client & building rapport. Focusing on family dynamics, job / school, main areas of concern, identifying strengths & weaknesses.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Hopeful to identify 2-3 measurable and attainable goals before end of the first session.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I'm pretty easy going. I do think I'm quite dependable. I do appreciate punctuality.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like to be outdoors. Hiking, camping, golfing, pickle ball, paddle boarding, frisbee, going to park with my wife & dogs. I enjoy going to concerts. Also like to travel when I can (mountains and beach are both good with me).
