About Margaret
I am Margaret Simpson, LMSW, an outpatient therapist dedicated to supporting individuals as they navigate life's challenges and work toward meaningful personal growth. I earned my Master of Social Work from Winthrop University.
My experience includes individual counseling, biopsychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, case management, and treatment planning across diverse client populations. I use evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches to help clients address emotional, behavioral, and psychosocial concerns while building coping skills and improving overall well-being.
I believe in creating a safe, supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, respected, and empowered to make meaningful changes. I'm committed to meeting you where you are—working collaboratively to help you achieve your goals, strengthen resilience, and enhance your quality of life.

"I believe healing happens through authentic connection, and I am passionate about creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their experiences and build meaningful change. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because I have always been drawn to helping people navigate challenges and discover their own strengths. Through my experiences in social work, community outreach, and supporting individuals and families across different stages of life, I witnessed the impact that compassionate, supportive relationships can have on healing and growth. Becoming a therapist allows me to combine my passion for advocacy, education, and mental health while providing a safe space where clients can feel heard, understood, and empowered to create meaningful change in their lives.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with adolescents, young adults, and adults who are navigating life transitions, anxiety, stress, selfesteem concerns, relationship challenges, and personal growth. I also have experience supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as families seeking guidance and resources. I enjoy working with clients who are looking for a collaborative, supportive therapeutic relationship where they can explore challenges, build coping skills, and work toward meaningful goals at their own pace.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I wish all clients knew that healing is not a linear process. There may be times when progress feels slow, uncomfortable, or even invisible, but growth often happens in small, meaningful steps. Therapy is not about being "fixed"—it's about gaining insight, building resilience, developing new skills, and creating a life that feels more aligned with your values and goals.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In our first session, clients can expect a welcoming, supportive, and judgmentfree environment where we will begin getting to know one another. I will ask questions about your background, current concerns, strengths, relationships, and goals for therapy to better understand your unique experiences and needs. The early stages of therapy focus on building trust, identifying priorities, and developing a treatment plan that feels meaningful and achievable. Throughout the process, I strive to create a collaborative space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered as we work together toward your goals.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My practice is grounded in the values of empathy, authenticity, inclusivity, and respect for each person's unique story. Through my experiences working with individuals and families in community settings, early childhood programs, veteran services, and disability advocacy, I have developed a deep appreciation for the resilience people demonstrate in the face of challenges. These experiences have reinforced my belief that everyone deserves a safe, supportive space to be heard and understood. I approach therapy with curiosity, compassion, and a commitment to meeting clients where they are while helping them build on their strengths and move toward meaningful change.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I believe that effective therapy begins with understanding each client's unique experiences, strengths, values, and goals. Rather than taking a one-size-fitsall approach, I tailor treatment by collaborating with clients to identify what works best for them and adjusting interventions as their needs evolve. I draw from evidence-based practices while remaining flexible and responsive to each person's cultural background, life circumstances, and personal preferences. My goal is to create a therapeutic experience that feels relevant, supportive, and aligned with what each client hopes to achieve.
