Kimberly (Kim) Cannon is a Licensed Individual Social Worker of Clinical Practice with 15 years of experience. She specializes in assisting adolescents, adults, and seniors who experience symptoms related to traumatic events resulting in but not limited to anxiety, depression, flashbacks, sleep disturbances, and relational issues. Kim also has experience with a variety of mood disorders, psychotic disorders, crisis intervention, and substance use disorders.
Kim received her Master's degree in Social Work from Winthrop University. She utilizes various clinical approaches, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, and mindfulness-based methods.
Kim believes in meeting patients where they are and helping them learn where they want to be. Her favorite quote is by Joshua Graham: "I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me." Get to know Kimberly
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
Kim has always worked as a helping professional in a variety of settings and with a variety of individuals. While getting her MSW, she landed in an internship with a community mental health center and never left. She enjoyed the knowledge she was gaining and wanted to put that knowledge into practice to help those struggling with mental health issues.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Kim feels that the answers to many mental health issues reside within the person and she is there to help them see a clearer path to feeling better.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I saw the opportunity to work with others who are passionate about their profession and the ability to tailor therapy to the needs of patients.
What inspires you?
Seeing patients progress and become enlightened about their mental health.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Patients can expect a warm, supportive, and inviting welcome to share their wants and needs. They will take away a clear understanding of what the next steps will be and how we can work together to achieve their goals.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Build a clear working relationship along with honest feedback about the issues which brought the patient to Thriveworks.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I am honest with patients regarding what I feel we can accomplish and how.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my time off, I like to spend quality time with my family and travel. I am an animal lover and enjoy taking care of my pets. I also enjoy gardening and quilting.
