Her primary focuses are identity issues, life transitions, family and relationship issues, trauma, grief, and mood disorders. She has completed additional training programs focused on counseling family members of people with terminal illnesses. Katie received her Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Winthrop University. Her counseling approach combines cognitive behavioral therapy and a person-centered approach. Depending on the client's needs, she also utilizes narrative therapy, attachment theory, internal family systems therapy, and play therapy for young children ages 4-12.
Katie's primary goal as a counselor is to work with each person and help them find a deeper understanding of who they are and where the problems they are dealing with stem from, and help to strategize on realistic goals that can help each person become more content with themselves and their life situation. She invites you to reach out today!

"I am a counselor who sees the importance in understanding the nuance behind every person's history, experience, and background that has helped shape them into the person they are today."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have always been empathetic and had a desire to help people. I went through my own therapy while growing up and I had certain counselors I found really helpful and some I did not. I hoped to become a counselor in this field that can genuinely help people find solutions.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are willing to dig into deeper topics and are willing to self reflect and look within.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I would love to work with anyone in the LGBTQ+ community, as that has always been an area I feel passionate about.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I want our sessions to be a place where we can both be serious as well as laugh. While we may certainly dig into deep and uncomfortable topics, I find it vital to try to make this a comfortable spot for you first.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks is a very impressive company that I have heard great things about. I wanted to practice somewhere where they took the ethical side of this career seriously, and I knew Thriveworks would.
What inspires you?
I'm inspired by anyone who is going through something and still fights to work through it, because that's not easy. I'm also inspired by anyone who tries to be kind even if the world has been hard on them.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our first session, I like to get the lay of the land. Hear what brought you to counseling in this exact moment and also any background that is vital to know about you before we start going further. I will provide you with the information on how our sessions will work moving forward and we will create some goals for what you want to achieve out of counseling.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want to establish a rapport, allow them to see what therapy with me as a counselor might be like, inform them about the counseling process, and start to get a baseline understanding of their life situation and what they need out of me as a counselor.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love to read, watch TV and movies, travel when I can, and write!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
My passion and desire to see everyone's side of a situation.
