Hello, my name is Yolanda Henderson. About 25 years ago, Social Work became my chosen profession. My experience includes inpatient and community-based behavioral health, case management, crisis intervention, and bereavement support. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I am able to use the tools and skills that have shaped my career to support clients in their therapeutic journey.
My experience gives me the kind of well-rounded perspective that is needed to address issues such as depression, stress, grief, and anxiety. The modalities that I use include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Grief Therapy, and Trauma Therapy. I create a safe space for clients to share openly without judgment.
The majority of us have been through something traumatic or challenging. I believe that some people convince themselves that where they are in life is where they have to stay. I reject that. You can change and/or release the thoughts/beliefs/behaviors that are no longer serving your overall wellness so that you can create space for something better.

"Like many others I have experienced trauma and loss, but I am grateful that I have also experienced healing and peace."
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
Throughout my personal and professional life, I have frequently been told that I am a good listener and I give helpful feedback. I believe that giving people the opportunity to be seen and heard contributes to positive energy in our communities.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with adults, from late teens to seniors, and couples. Whether it is your first time in therapy or you are experienced with the therapeutic process, I am ready to join with you.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
There is a degree of vulnerability required for therapy but if you are open to it, you can gain clarity, insight, and better coping skills.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In the first session I create a space for clients to talk freely about what is impacting their life. I tend to allow clients to speak about their emotions and experiences as they feel it. After reflecting on what was shared to ensure that I heard everything correctly, we will then discuss a treatment plan for future sessions.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
I grew up in a small town in a family that discouraged open and honest discussions about feelings. I started to find my voice when I went to college in another state, and had the opportunity to meet many different people- some who grew up like me and others who did not. My practice is informed by the belief that clients deserve to have a space to speak about what is true for them.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I actively listen to each client, and ask questions to promote understanding.
