About Sarah
Sarah Steenbergen is a Licensed Social Worker with 2 years of experience working with adults in community health settings. She has assisted clients looking for support with anxiety, depression, grief and loss, addictions, and trauma experiences. Her training in social work and public health informs her views of clients as acting upon and being influenced by environmental and societal systems. She approaches clients with cultural humility and authenticity with a developmentally informed approach to help them reach their goals.
Sarah has a Master of Social Work from Temple University. Drawing from cognitive behavioral, mindfulness-based, person-centered, and dialectical behavior therapies, Sarah will work with you to strengthen your existing coping skills, learn new skills, and explore growth opportunities.
Wherever you're at in life, Sarah will meet you there. If you're feeling stuck, reaching out is the first major hurdle. You are showing yourself care by asking for support! Sarah knows healing and growth don’t happen in isolation, and she is committed to fostering relationship-building as an essential part of the therapeutic process.

"As someone who has been in therapy at multiple points in my life, I know how hard it can be to find a therapist who sees you as a whole person."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
There's no better feeling than seeing someone grow and reach their goals, and I'm lucky to have a career in which I can help facilitate that.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I've worked with young adults through older adults and those moving through a variety of life stages.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Those who are feeling stuck and looking to make meaning of their experiences. I enjoy working with clients whose experiences are different from my own and helping them connect with what drives them.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Mental health is influenced by our environments and experiences. So many times we tell ourselves that there is something wrong with us, but oftentimes it's a response to what we have lived through.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I appreciate the support that allows us to focus more on our clients and the opportunities to grow as a therapist.
What inspires you?
The kindness humans are capable of showing to complete strangers.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
To review any experiences you've had with therapy, what works and does not work for you, and start planning our next steps.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
During out first session, I'd like to learn more about what brings you to therapy and your unique strengths. We'll start to build a roadmap of what you'd like to explore and how you'd like to grow during our time together.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
My style is centered on collaboration. You made the decision to reach out for help, and I want to make sure you are getting the most out of your experience. I regularly ask clients for feedback to build a relationship of trust and ensure what we’re doing is working for you.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love cooking and baking, reading, and biking!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I enjoy learning new things each day.
