Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I come from a family of therapists in which helping others to learn effective coping skills was highly valued. I truly find it greatly rewarding to help others understanding that there is no wrong way to feel, it is only how we go about it!
What types of clients do you work with best?
I love working with all types of clients! It keeps me engaged and encourages me to continue learning everyday. However, I have noticed that I am particularly good with clients who have had difficulty engaging and disclosing during therapy in the past and teens usually love me!
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Those who feel misunderstood or have their own difficulty figuring out how they feel themselves.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Therapists are like shoes! Sometimes we have to try one or two as see what fits (personality, approach, communication style, etc). But once you find the one that does fit, the journey to walk through is so much more rewarding.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I love the idea of people receiving therapists from their own environment. It allows the client to be more relaxed and open to communication.
What inspires you?
Seeing people find the answers that were always within themselves.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Lots of question, lots of smiles, lots of encouragement and hopefully to establish a few good goals for treatment.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
My main goal for that first individual session is to build a healthy rapport with my client and assess readiness to change (improve, manage, etc)! I always want to make sure I am meeting my client at whatever stage they are because this is their journey. I am just a virtual guide.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am a highly empathetic person and I smile a lot!
