Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I understand that life circumstances and challenges will effect us all at some point, and the world is not set up in a way to support individuals in finding healthy coping skills or support networks. Through therapeutic work, I work to empower clients to support themselves, and those they love, in the complex and challenging world they are navigating.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are willing to step away from the perspective of pathology or mental illness. While one may experience symptoms of a formal diagnosis, I believe everyone is a healthy, brilliant, human who is likely struggling with the systems and dynamics of modern life.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that it is normal, and even expected, to struggle from time to time. Most often, our greatest strengths and skills can be found in these difficult moments.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by feminist, social justice, and multicultural orientations and frameworks, exploring how the world and social systems impact each of us in intersectional and dynamic ways.
I am also deeply inspired by Eastern practices of mind-body awareness, spiritual empowerment, and holistic health.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
First sessions are ran differently than typical counseling sessions. Expect to spend time helping me get to know you as a whole person, not just the presenting concern you are hoping to work on! Your strenghts, unique qualities, and intersectional experiences are important to understand in the therapeutic context.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
For fun, I practice yoga, crochet, read, and spending time in nature. When I am looking for more rest, I love to watch movies and media with family, friends, and cat! Finding what brings you joy is an important step in leading a meaningful and fulfilling life.
