Melissa has been an incredible therapist, guiding me toward self discovery and subsequent healing. She is supportive while questioning potential negative thought patterns and always manages to poses questions that lead me to breakthroughs and the ability to make connections and decrease my anxiety on my own. I have recommended her to several people and will continue to do so. I am very grateful for her skill as a therapist.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
It brings me joy to help people navigate struggles and overcome difficulties. Even as a teenager, I liked listening to people who needed someone to hear them and help them find solutions to their problems.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Most of my work is through conversations and practicing coping skills, so I work best with clients who communicate and process life, thoughts, and emotions verbally.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
It is difficult for me to pick one type since I enjoy working with a wide variety of people. I'm excited to help people reach their goals and live a fulfilling and healthy life.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Everyone has a reason to love themselves and to be loved. We are all flawed, so there is no need to be perfect.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I spoke with a colleague who is working at Thriveworks, and it sounded like what I am looking for- an opportunity to work with clients with options for support when needed. The flexibility and collaborative atmosphere are appealing.
What inspires you?
I look for inspiration in many places- nature, books, artists, and philosophers.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In my first session, I like to find out what questions clients have. Then, I like to hear about their expectations, including their experiences with therapy. I also share some of my expectations with them. Some people are ready to hit the ground running and get to work while others want to give me some background and get to know each other more. I start where clients want to begin.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want people to leave feeling emotionally safe and hopeful that their goals will be met.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I want to be the support clients need and do my job which is to help people build the skills, confidence, and a support system to no longer need me. If life is like a long novel, I will be in some chapters and not others, or maybe just one.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, kayaking, and snow skiing. I also like to cook and read/listen to audiobooks.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am committed to the people in my life and the things that I find important. When I set a goal, I follow through.
