Why did you decide to become a counselor?
To become a counselor was something I had wanted to do for a long time. I found it incredible to see how they had overcome their battles in life and privileged to learn that I could have some small part in watching them grow.
What types of clients to you work with best?
I work best with people who have had a background of being raised as children of alcoholics or addicts. There are so many people who fit into this category and don't even realize that they have characteristics in common with many other people. I am most excited to see my clients grow and learn how it is difficult to overcome barriers that seem impossible, yet they are able to attain success.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that there are always options in everything they do. To be able to look at something and think there's only one way to go can be debilitating. But to look at an issue and think of many different options in what's happening can be freeing.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks seems to have the freedom to choose who I can best work with. They will promote my best qualities and help both my client and myself find a decent solution to their problems.
What inspires you?
What inspires me is seeing people learn about how to be better people.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
There is a great deal of getting background information in the first session, but I hope to get to the core of the issues and give the client some relief from what is bothering them.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I would like to accomplish first to get relief for the individual and second to give them some things to think about in order for them to be prepared for the next session.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Walk and hike with my dog.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Before scheduling a first session, the only thing to know is that there is nothing to be afraid of. What we will do is figure out what is the best way for a client to go.
