About Mariah
Mariah Williams is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 2 years of experience working in the field. She has gained experience working with age groups from children to adults. Mariah specializes in trauma, crisis intervention, anxiety, depression, panic disorders, and life transitions. As someone with a physical disability, Mariah has personal experience with adapting to unique obstacles and coming up with creative ways to transition well to unexpected challenges. Mariah hopes that these experiences will provide a more empathetic understanding of her clients’ challenges and lend to working collaboratively with her clients.
Mariah graduated with her Master’s in Clinical Counseling from Eastern University with a concentration in trauma studies. Mariah uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and narrative therapy as modalities to support her collaborative work with her clients. Mariah also strongly believes in an integrative approach.
Mariah deeply values the strengths and exceptional abilities that her clients bring to the session. She is confident that she can help foster growth in her clients and remind them of the unique capabilities that they already possess. Therapy allows for strengths to be brought out and for the inner work to be done. Mariah looks forward to meeting new clients!

"I believe that we don't get to choose when we have to be resilient and face life challenges, so it's okay to feel like you don't have it all figured out right now. I'm here to help!"

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because I enjoy listening and supporting others as they process and journey through their story of both challenges and healing. As I gain more experience in this field, I have witnessed what it looks like for a person to feel seen and heard, sometimes even for the first time in their lives! I want to continue to be apart of fostering a safe space where people feel understood. I believe that is the foundation for healing and change!
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have experience working with a wide age range of clients and a variety of therapeutic goals. The type of client I am looking forward to working with someone who is taking the first steps towards processing their experiences and seeking a little bit of help navigating life challenges. If you are here reading this, you are taking those first steps, that person is you!
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work alongside anyone who is willing to work together as a team to come up with goals, gain new perspectives and tell their story to begin the healing process. Whether you have an idea of goals you want to work on, or have no idea where to start, I am excited to work with you!
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Starting a counseling journey or starting with a new counselor can be terrifying. I know it can be hard sometimes to trust, choosing to trust is a risk. My promise to you, is that if you take that risk and go all in, I will strive to show you that I can meet you with complete support and understanding because therapists don't have life all figured out either.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose Thriveworks because I believe that they are working to make counseling more accessible to clients, and being part of this team will provide experiences to help me become a better therapist for my clients.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by others who find the little glimpses of joy amidst carrying their heaviest burdens, choosing joy isn't always easy.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our first session together, as cheesy as it sounds, we will just be getting to know each other. I will ask simple questions just to get to know your story a bit and what is bringing you to counseling. The first session is really about establishing a safe space and building the foundation for trust.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
My hope is that a space is created where you feel heard and seen, as you share your story and we begin your mental heath journey together!
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I truly believe that counseling is a collaborative process, I invite you to be open and honest with me about how to better support you through our time together. This is your time and your safe space!
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like to go to the beach, embroider, play board games, listen to music and spend time with my baby nephew!
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I deeply value my commitment to both my own belief system and my compassion for others.
