Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I always knew I wanted a career in helping others. When I took a psychology class my senior year of high school, I was so intrigued while all of my friends were bored in the class. I then declared my Psychology major and started doing anti-bullying workshops with 7th and 8th grade girls that involved facilitating a small group session. It was there that my passion for helping others directly through therapy was solidified.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have a passion for working with children and teens but also love working with adults. If someone is ready and motivated to at least start considering counseling, I love to help them have a positive first experience!
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
My speciality and passion is with childhood trauma so this is a population I love to work with.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
That therapy is at the most basic level an amazing self-care routine. When else do you get an hour that is just yours (not your partner's or kids or work or chores) with a neutral party who is ready and willing to listen and help you process?
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks brings excellence and convenience into the hands of clients!
What inspires you?
My clients inspire me. Working in trauma, people often ask me, "How do you do it? How do you listen to all those sad stories?" and I always tell people that they underestimate how resilient people can be and often out of trauma, beautiful resilience is born. I meet others with such challenging histories but somehow here they are, still fighting, still connecting with others, still living. Its amazing and inspiring.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
A warm welcome and a thorough background discussion to really start to get an idea on best approaches for the most impact.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
To help them decrease anxiety about starting therapy if they have it, or change the storyline they may have about therapy from past negative experiences. To start a connection and truly start getting to know you. My main goal of the session is that someone walks out feeling good they chose to schedule and show up today.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I am big into fitness actually. The gym is my self-care for sure. I also love being outdoors-hiking, the beach, the park with my niece and nephew-all of those are my happy places.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am very disciplined.
