Why did you decide to become a counselor?
After years of being a community organizer and working with neurodivergent children, adults and their families, I realized that my skills could best be applied in the counseling field. I kept my passion for individual and social change and bring that same energy into the therapeutic space with me.
What types of clients do you work with best?
While there is no client whom I have not enjoyed working with, I find it especially rewarding to work with clients who are searching for insights into intrusive thoughts, uncomfortable emotions or behaviors they wish to either adopt or rid themselves of.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
It is an honor and a pleasure to work with clients whom the counseling field has not always served well, including members of traditionally marginalized communities.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish every client could see themselves as the people who love and look up to them do. Our inner voice can often be so critical = listen to your cheerleaders sometimes, too!
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I love being part of a mutually supportive collective, and I enjoy knowing that I am part of something much bigger than myself. Thriveworks provides all this and so much more!
What inspires you?
It is such a humbling yet thrilling experience to watch a spark of insight from a therapist turn into a game-changer in their life's narrative. I truly enjoy witnessing individuals grow and thrive (slight pun intended) in a supportive and safe environment.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In our initial session, it is my hope that the client will find a kind and listening ear, We will establish ground rules and expectations, and identify the client's primary goals in treatment. The first session is really all about making sure the client feels we are a good fit, and that the therapeutic space is a safe one.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
My goal is to establish parameters, determine the client's presenting concerns, and begin the process of forming a therapeutic treatment plan that will act as a roadmap for the client's journey through mental wellness. The client should also expect to leave our first session with a concrete understanding of the coping skills we will be practicing and modeling throughout our treatment.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
My approach is a deeply client-centered one. A client should know that I possess an extensive knowledge of evidence-based techniques, and that I utilize a holistic approach that emphasizes mindfulness stress reduction techniques.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
As a lifelong sci-fi nerd, I can often be spotted reading a paperback space opera novel. I am just as frequently found listening to music, taking nature walks, and spending time with my two amazing kiddos.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I am always listening. I am often quiet, the better to hear others, including especially those whose voices have been silenced.
