About Susan
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) with 26 years of experience supporting children, adolescents, adults, and older adults across the lifespan. My background includes school-based counseling, grief and loss work, medical social work, hospice care, and community reentry support. I specialize in helping individuals navigate life transitions, bereavement, trauma, anxiety, depression, and complex life stressors using a strength-based, trauma-informed approach.
I earned my master’s degree in social work from Portland State University. My clinical experience spans healthcare, home health, hospice, and correctional settings, including work with incarcerated and formerly incarcerated adults. I utilize evidence-based, client-centered practices that emphasize collaboration, resilience, and practical skill-building.
I strive to create a safe, inclusive, and nonjudgmental space where clients feel respected and empowered to show up authentically. Together, we build insight, develop effective coping strategies, and work toward meaningful, sustainable change. If you are seeking support during a challenging season, I welcome the opportunity to work with you.

"Shaped by transition, loss, and resilience, I offer a steady, caring presence that helps clients feel seen, supported, and hopeful as they navigate life’s challenges. With support and understanding, clients can reconnect with the inner strength and wisdom they already carry."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have a genuine desire to reduce the stigma around mental health and increasing access to compassionate, affirming care. I’ve had experience as a “client”, and had positive outcomes. I have a belief in the power of safe, trusting relationships that support growth and meaningful change.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I am a generalist therapist and work well with those across a broad range of concerns and diagnoses. I tailor therapy to each individual and often work best with clients seeking supportive, collaborative space to build insight, coping skills and positive outcomes.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
One thing I wish I had known earlier in my career about therapy and the healing process, is that clients often already hold the answers they are seeking. My role is not to direct or fix, but to be a welcomed guest in their lives - someone who helps create the space, safety and reflection needed for answers to emerge. Healing unfolds through trust, curiosity and collaboration. It is an honor to walk alongside clients as they reconnect with their own wisdom and capacity for growth.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
In your first session, you can expect a warm, collaborative space where your story is heard and valued. I listen carefully and ask thoughtful questions. I will work creatively with you to clarify goals and explore strategies that fit your unique needs. Early sessions focus on building trust, understanding your priorities and starting a personalized path toward positive change.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My personal experiences have deeply shaped my work as a therapist. Having been a client myself, I learned firsthand the impact of skilled, compassionate mental health professionals. Those experiences continue to inform how I connect with and support clients. Losing my only sister to breast cancer at a young age and surviving the disease myself twice, were profound life experiences that shaped my perspective on resilience, grief, and the fragility and strength of life. Combining these experiences with clinical training, allows me to offer a practice grounded in both personal insight and evidence-based approaches.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy to each client’s unique needs by taking a flexible creative and collaborative approach. There is no "one-size-fits-all" method when it comes to working with people. I focus on understanding each person’s story, strengths and goals. Together we explore what strategies and interventions feel most helpful and meaningful, often thinking outside the box to find approaches that that truly fit the client. My goal is to create a personalized plan that is practical, engaging and aligned with client’s values, ensuring therapy is relevant and effective for them.
