Why did you decide to become a counselor?
Honestly, I got interested in the psychology field after watching series/seasons of Criminal Minds. I got more interested in being a counselor because I wanted to help bring more awareness to the effects mental health has on our quality of life and relationships.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I have found that I work well with a wide range of clients, which include high school students, college students, and adults.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I find myself enjoying the work with college students and young adults since I'm always interested in how things are constantly changing in terms of relationships, social media, and society as a whole.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
There's no exact timeline for progress. Some things go fast and other things take more time, but ultimately, you [the client] will know where you want to go.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
Thriveworks offers the opportunity to meet with a wide range of clients to allow me to improve my own skills and abilities.
What inspires you?
I'm inspired most by being able to see my friends and family overcome their own personal challenges and achieving their goals. I'm also inspired to be able to meet my own goals, which include traveling and learning new things.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I think it's helpful to have an understanding of what brings somebody to counseling and what they hope to accomplish. In the first session, I'd like to start there and to also get a gauge of what works or doesn't work for them, if they received counseling before.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I prefer to work with the client in terms of the topics we discuss or the initial direction of counseling. I understand that there are difficult topics that we might not want to throw ourselves into face first, so I'd like to build the therapeutic relationship so we can reach that point.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I spend time with my cats, watching cooking videos on YouTube, and play video games (mostly PC).
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I'm always interested in learning something new.
