About Victoria
Victoria Smith is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate with 1 year of experience working with clients with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, loss/grief, addiction, academic stress, everyday life stressors, and legal concerns. She prioritizes a collaborative approach with clients to help them reach their goals and see issues in their lives as things to be solved, not problems holding them back.
Victoria has a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Mount Olive. As therapy is not one-size-fits-all, she uses varying techniques based on client needs. These may include cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and mindfulness methods.
Victoria believes in building a strong foundation of trust with clients to allow for a greater understanding of one another that will lead to change. She strives to create a safe space where you can express all feelings without fear of judgment. Victoria looks forward to partnering with you as you walk through this journey.

"As a young woman in today's society, I understand life’s unique issues. I have personal experience with grief and loss and can understand the lasting impact they have."

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
My passion for counseling started during my own counseling journey as I was dealing with the loss of very close family members. I realized from then that my life calling is to help other people in similar situations, not just in grief, going through their darkest times. I find great joy in doing this.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with adolescents and adults who struggle with mental health and/or substance use issues.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am most exited to work with clients who are wanting and willing to make changes. Change is a scary thing! But, we can create a safe space for this change.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I wish all clients knew that they have the ability within themselves to make the changes they want to see. Therapy is not a space where I will tell you how to fix something/what to do. Therapy is a collaborative space to gain a better understanding so that you can make those changes.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I came to Thriveworks because I love the advocacy and client-focused nature of their practice. Being client-focused is a priority for me.
What inspires you?
Seeing clients grow is my biggest inspiration in this field.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
In an initial session with me, you can expect a lot of easy-going conversation as we are just starting to get to know one another. This initial session is a time for me to start getting to know you and the reasons behind coming to therapy, as well as a time for you to get to know me as a therapist.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
My time off and fun time includes baking and cooking, spending time with family and friends, doing needlepoint, and being in nature. I love to bake sourdough bread and try new recipes for my family!
