About Victoria
Victoria "Vicky" Baxter is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) who has 7 years of experience providing services to all ages--children, adolescent, and adults--along with couples and family treatment. Vicky’s clinical background includes the Charlie Norwood VA where she worked with veterans of all ages with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety. She then worked for a Community Service Board in Georgia, serving low SES populations and treating severe and persistent mental health issues. Vicky then moved to North Carolina where she has had the opportunity to work with geriatric populations on developmental stage issues, end of life issues, as well as dementia.
Vicky completed her Bachelor of Science (BS) in Psychology at Georgia Southern University and her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Augusta University. She has been trained in cognitive processing therapy (CPT), relaxation/mindfulness training, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and substance abuse treatment. Vicky’s theoretical orientation includes reality and choice therapy.
Vicky believes that there are many things in the world we cannot control, however there are many elements we can. We do not choose the conditions that we are born into or born with, however we do have a choice in how we respond to them. Vicky’s priority is to help you understand what you are experiencing and what is causing distress in order to make the changes you are looking for and capable of. Vicky attempts to empower her clients to feel control over their lives and choices to reach their goals. Whatever changes you want to make, Vicky is here to walk that journey with you.

"My goal is to provide an empathetic, open, and non-judgmental space for you to explore symptoms and stressors and work with you to change the things you want and improve in any and all areas, leading to a happier you. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I have always known I wanted to help people and would end up in a helping profession. During my undergrad, professors helped narrow down my goals and how I wanted to help people. Counseling in its true nature is empathetic, open, non-judgmental and I truly, unconditionally care. I love that I am able to hold space for people that need it and know that if nothing else, you have a time for yourself to be you and be free and open.
What types of clients do you work with best?
My training years were at the VA and I love working with veterans and military personnel. I found passion work in elderly (55 and up) and following clients through to the end of their lives. I also very much enjoy working with clients in or near my generation. Counseling is different in each generation and there is something special about working with someone around your age.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Anyone who is excited and wanting counseling! I am passionate about counseling and love when clients are ready to jump in.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
I truly, do not judge you. That is not my job and that is not my place. If you ever feel you are being judged by a counselor, find someone else. We don't go into this profession with a goal to make you feel negative.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Lots of questions! I am trying to get to know as much about you in an hour as I can. I want to hear it all, the good and the bad.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Feeling comfortable with the process and leaving the intake feeling a little lighter.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Rewatch The Office, attempt to get though a season of Grey's Anatomy, shop, thrift, and explore Raleigh.
