Trent earned his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Catawba College. As a counselor, he takes a collaborative approach, believing that clients are the experts in their own lives. His work centers on empowering individuals to take the lead in their growth journey.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
Trent's fascination with psychology began in high school, where he discovered a natural knack for it. Initially, he explored the scientific side of psychology, considering lab work as a potential path but found being in a lab miserable. Looking into the practical side of psychology he found Counseling and it allowed him to connect with people on a deeper level. He found this feeling and it solidified his decision to pursue a career in counseling, where he could make a meaningful difference in people's lives.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Trent has developed a strong affinity for working with diverse populations, including the elderly, young adults, and teens. He is particularly skilled in supporting individuals who have experienced trauma and grief, utilizing evidence-based therapies to help them navigate their unique challenges. As well as helping people work through more mundane changes in their lives that cause anxiety and depression.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
Trent is deeply passionate about supporting individuals who are navigating challenges related to anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD, or trauma. He is particularly excited to work with clients who are ready and willing to embark on a journey of change.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Consoling is a process and it takes time. Failure is as much a part of that process as successes. Don't be discouraged by setbacks and misfits with therapists and programs

Trent first discovered Thriveworks during his academic journey, drawn by the company's commitment to prioritizing client needs above all else. What inspires you?
Trent finds his greatest motivation in witnessing the resilience and determination of his clients as they navigate a wide range of challenges. Seeing individuals from diverse backgrounds work tirelessly to overcome their struggles inspires him to continue providing compassionate and dedicated support.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
During our initial session, expect a relaxed and engaging conversation where we'll get to know each other. We'll explore your personal story, the reasons that brought you to counseling, and what you hope to achieve in our sessions. Additionally, we'll discuss your preferences for a counselor and any specific needs or concerns you may have. By taking the time to understand your unique situation and expectations, we can tailor our work together to best meet your needs and goals.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In our first session, Trent aims to establish a warm and welcoming environment where you feel comfortable sharing your story. He will take the time to get to know you as a person, understand the reasons that brought you to counseling, and explore your long-term goals for therapy. This includes discussing what you've tried in the past, what has been effective, and what hasn't, to better understand your unique situation and preferences. Additionally, we will guide you through the intake process, covering important logistical and clinical information necessary for our work together
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
One of Trent’s goals in counseling is to blend a casual and easy-going demeanor with a deep commitment to helping clients achieve their mental health goals. By combining humor with mindfulness and seriousness, Trent creates a safe and supportive environment where clients feel comfortable exploring their thoughts and emotions.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Trent describes himself as a self-proclaimed 'giant nerd' with a passion for reading and writing fantasy stories. In his free time, he enjoys exploring nature through hiking and fishing, finding solace in the tranquility of the outdoors. Additionally, he has a keen interest in sciences, reason and philosophy.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
Trent's desire to help others. Something that has always driven him in just about all he does is how he can aid others be it with laughter or science.
