About Sylvia

I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified Trauma Professional with 4+ years of clinical and 15+ years of experience. Licensed in North Carolina, I work with young and older adults, veterans, and those with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, ADHD, grief, and relationship issues. I specialize in childhood trauma using evidence-based practices. From personal experience, I understand healing. Therapy means understanding who you've been, honoring what helped you survive, and becoming who you are. In our work, expect compassionate, supportive, collaborative care helping you move from surviving to living grounded and intentional.

My approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and collaborative. I specialize in childhood trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief and loss,ADHD, and relationships. Together we identify limiting patterns and develop healthier coping skills. Expect supportive, nonjudgmental space at your pace. My goal is helping you feel grounded, empowered, and intentional.

Healing does not mean forgetting what you've been through; it means your past does not define your future. You deserve a safe space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow. I would be honored to walk alongside you toward healing, self-awareness, and balance. If ready, please schedule an appointment now. You do not navigate this journey alone.

Get to know Sylvia

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I became a therapist because I believe people have the capacity to heal, grow, and create meaningful change, even after experiencing trauma, loss, and difficult life circumstances. My personal experiences and professional journey, beginning as a Certified Nursing Assistant and caring for individuals during vulnerable times, inspired my commitment to helping others feel heard, understood, and empowered. As a therapist, I am honored to support clients in developing the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to build healthier and more fulfilling lives.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I work best with adults and older adults from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds who are motivated to make meaningful changes and actively engage in the therapeutic process. I especially enjoy supporting individuals navigating trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, life transitions, relationship challenges, and emotional stress. I value a collaborative therapeutic relationship with clients who are ready to gain insight, develop healthier coping strategies, strengthen emotional resilience, and take intentional steps toward healing, personal growth, and improved overall wellbeing.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

I want every client to know that healing takes time. Therapy is a process of learning, growth, and selfdiscovery, and there is no set timeline for becoming the person you want to be. Progress may happen gradually, but every step forward matters. It is never too late to learn new skills, make meaningful changes, heal from past experiences, and create a healthier, more fulfilling life.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

In our first session, my priority is to create a comfortable, welcoming, and nonjudgmental space where you feel heard and respected. We will take time to build rapport and establish trust while getting to know you, your concerns, and what brought you to therapy. I will ask questions at a comfortable pace and use active listening to better understand your experiences, strengths, and goals. In the early stages of therapy, we will collaborate to identify meaningful goals and develop a plan that fits your needs. You can expect an approach that is supportive, honest, and sometimes lighthearted when appropriate. Together, we will begin learning healthy coping strategies, building emotional regulation skills, and developing practical tools to support your progress both in and outside of therapy.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

My personal experiences with trauma, loss, and life’s challenges, along with my diverse professional background, have deeply shaped my approach to therapy. My experience includes working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, medical social work, community-based programs, behavioral health services, acute hospital settings, and providing direct care as a Certified Nursing Assistant. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of the importance of compassion, patience, dignity, empathy, and truly listening to each person without judgment. I believe people have the capacity to heal, grow, and create meaningful change when they feel safe, supported, and understood. I bring these values into my practice by meeting clients where they are, honoring their individual experiences and strengths, and collaborating with them to develop practical skills for coping, emotional wellness, and personal growth. I recognize that healing is a process that takes time, and I believe it is never too late to learn, grow, develop new skills, and create a healthier and more fulfilling life.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I tailor therapy to each client by first taking time to understand their unique experiences, strengths, concerns, goals, culture, and current circumstances. I recognize that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to healing, so I collaborate with each client to develop goals and interventions that feel meaningful, realistic, and appropriate for their needs. I draw from evidencebased approaches such as CBT, DBT, ACT, TF-CBT, and SFBT, while incorporating mindfulness, self-care, coping skills, and strengths-based interventions as appropriate. I adjust my pace, communication style, and therapeutic techniques based on each client’s comfort level, readiness, and progress. My goal is to meet clients where they are, provide a safe and nonjudgmental space, and work collaboratively to help them build insight, develop healthier coping strategies, strengthen emotional regulation, and make meaningful, sustainable changes in their lives.
