Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a therapist because I believe in the power of people to find their own way when given the tools, resources and opportunities to do so. I also became a therapist because I believe in the power of the creative arts as an outlet for self expression, a means of self soothing, a way to channel and transform difficult experiences into something personally meaningful.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are able to commit to a regular frequency of sessions, weekly to biweekly.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with clients who are open to introspective work and committed to building positive coping skills to manage depression, anxiety, trauma, and life stressors.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
That progress requires efforts and change outside of the therapy room.
What inspires you?
Art, music, and nature.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients can expect in a first session with me that I am interested in getting to know them and to help them feel comfortable in talking about their reasons for seeking therapy. Clients can expect that I'll be interested in who they are, and will ask them questions about their history, their presenting issues/concerns and their desired treatment goals.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In a first session with a client I want to establish a comfortable space for client to feel free to discuss their presenting concerns. I will take a thorough history, identify presenting issues/concerns, and the client's desired goals of therapy.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
Clients should know that I am available both by telehealth and in person.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
On my time off I love to hang out with my husband, my friends and 3 beautiful cats. I like art, listening to music, being outside, walking, kayaking and playing guitar. I absolutely love the ocean.
