About Sharon Denise

Sharon “SD” D. Buckner is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with over 11 years of experience helping clients of all ages who are suffering from the effects of ADHD, anger management issues, behavioral issues, poor coping skills, and low self-esteem. She works with college students, military members, and veterans.


SD uses her professional expertise to provide an eclectic approach tocounseling sessions. By using cognitive behavioral therapy, interpersonal approaches, and positive psychology methods, she can uniquely helpindividuals experience personal growth in a safe and encouraging therapeutic space.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

When my sister passed I was going through so many emotions, and this got me on the path of helping others. It is an interesting field of work and there are so many branches of study in psychology.

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?

Readiness and willingness to work.

There are many opportunities to advance at Thriveworks because of the opportunities to work with different populations and there is room to advance to make the company strong with the skills I bring. 

What inspires you?

Movies, reading, and writing.

Introduction, a smile and knowing they are in charge of their work.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

Feeling of being relaxed to open up about themselves.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

Spend time with family, friends, my dog, and mother.
