About Sarah
Sarah Olson is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 15 years of experience helping infants, toddlers, children, teens, and adults who are faced with anxiety, depression, anger, poor coping skills, and family conflict issues.
Sarah received her Master's degree in Social Work from Florida Atlantic University and is classically trained at the Master’s level in cognitive behavior therapy and solutions-focused therapy. She helps clients to explore behavior patterns that may have been caused by past events. Sarah believes that being honest about how you feel is the most effective way to move forward in getting to where you want to go in life.
Sarah likes to think that speaking with her is like speaking with a best friend that is able to really hear what you are experiencing. Expect every moment we are interacting to be all about you. Nothing is more important to her than making you feel truly heard.
If you are ready to explore what things need to change in your life to reach your picture of peace and happiness, Sarah is ready to speak with you. You deserve the life you want!

"I have been privileged to have walked with people in the most difficult times in their lives for the last 14 years."

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
For as long as I can remember, people and their behavior fascinated me. There is nothing more intriguing then learning about how the person I am speaking to ended up in front of me. The earliest example I have is within my own family. My siblings and I grew up with the same parenting style, largely same school systems and teachers, however we all responded so differently to our upbringing. How did we have so many similarities, but saw the world so differently? Hence my drive to learn about human behavior.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients that are really ready to be honest with themselves. I love working with people that are willing to get a little out of their comfort zone and try new things. I love to work with someone who can just be raw and say what life is like for them and how they see it: right, wrong or indifferent.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I like to work with all types of people because people in general have all sorts of challenges. I like sorting out problems of all kinds! I love to see the people I am working with finally get what they want. I have worked with minor communication issues all the way to someone facing a life sentence in prison. I find them both worthy and relevant to unpack.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
Life doesn't always have to be so hard. Life is really about how you choose to see this challenge. Once we can figure out how to look at this problem, where it might be coming from and you find the bravery to make different choices, the magic will happen.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I love the support and diversity in every aspect of Thriveworks.
What inspires you?
I think giving people a safe space to speak their truth is what inspires me the most. Nothing feels as good for me to see someone completely deflate after a really good session. I can almost see the world melt off their shoulders while we are together.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Clients should expect that the first, and every session there after is 100% about them. I like to think that people see me as a very skillful friend in session.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
After getting basic information, I would like to get a good understanding of the client's perception of the main reason that lead them to seek help.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
Don't be scared! Just do it and give it a fair shot! You will only get better at something when you give therapy a genuine try! You deserve to be happy and get to where you want to go in life!
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love family time and snuggling with my cat. I enjoy the beach and very long walks when I can fit them in. I love music and singing (not well). I love traveling when I can and meeting up with friends.
What’s one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
I think something that I have that not many people have is my ability to stay confident no matter what life throws at me. I trust that I have everything I need to be as great as I want to be. I don't need validation from anyone other then myself. I'm a wonderful person.
