"As a person who has had many life transitions and has been married to a man and now a woman, I am in the unique situation to have been exposed to so many challenges. Those experiences have made me more empathic and understanding of my patients."

Get to know Nancy

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I decided to be a therapist when I was in high school. I was exposed to my teenage friends and observed that all people struggle and I had an aptitude for active listening and validating their feelings. I decided then that I should be a therapist.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work well with couples and people who struggle with any substance abuse and mental health conditions.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I am most excited to work with people in the LGBTQIA+ community, as I joined them in 2005.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish all clients knew that they can have a better life and that change is possible.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose to work at Thriveworks because I wanted to work at home and because I appreciate their approach to helping people.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by my patients as they work hard and they achieve the life they want.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Patients can expect a non-judgmental and caring therapist, who will teach them strategies to lessen their symptoms, as well as obtaining their bio-psycho-social information.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want to put the patient at ease in the first session. I also want them to feel heard.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

Patients should know that I work very hard to help them achieve their goals.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

We live at the beach, which is my favorite place, I enjoy playing with my 2 dogs, traveling and spending time with my family and friends.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

My desire to make this world a better place, is what defines me.

Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?

I recently had a patient who presented with alcohol addiction. In the last few months, she has stopped drinking, is attending an IOP and has improved her relationships with her family. I am very proud of the work she has done!
