Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I chose to become a counselor because I find great joy in helping others to learn and grow. I believe that every person faces challenges in their life where they need a listening ear to support them. As a counselor, I get to be a part of that person's journey supporting them through challenges and celebrating their progress with them.
What types of clients do you work best with?
While I have worked with individuals on a variety of concerns over the years, I have found that my practice primarily focuses on Anxiety and Panic related disorders, Depression, Grief, and Anger Management.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
The first step in tailoring therapy is to learn your strengths and goals in addition to your current concerns. From there, we work together to equip you with the needed skills and make plans to help you reach your definition of a rich and meaningful life.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
I often refer to the first session as the "get to know you" session. You are the expert of your own story, so I spend the first session learning from you. I want to know about your goals, strengths, and concerns along with any other information you think I should know about you. Then I will work with you to develop a plan to meet your goals and address your concerns.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
I want my clients to know that the goal is never perfection, only progress. Often people become so focused achieving their "perfect" goal that they forget to be present and find joy in their own growth. I believe in celebrating all progress and accepting growth as it comes.
