Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
As an African American woman, mental health and therapy were not discussed often within my community growing up. After studying mental health, trauma, and the disparities for people of color, I want to be a pillar of my community to bring awareness to mental health and break the stigma of therapy. In today's fast-paced and often stressful world, more and more people are turning to therapy to improve their mental and emotional well-being.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Clients with a curiosity for change. Therapy is not just for individuals dealing with severe mental health issues; it can benefit anyone looking to gain self-awareness and achieve personal growth.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am passionate about working with individuals who are ready to learn more about themselves, whether they're navigating life transitions, seeking emotional balance, or simply wanting something to shift. I feel excited to work with clients who are motivated to build on their strengths and areas for growth to live more intentionally.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
One thing I wish all clients knew is that healing isn't a straight line, there's no right way to grow, and setbacks are just part of the journey, not signs of failure.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose Thriveworks because it provides the structure and resources I need to focus solely on my clients. Thriveworks also provides me the flexibility to stay true to my approach and values as a therapist.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by individual creativity. No two people are the same, and that brings uniqueness to therapy. Being able to identify a client's interest and use that to help them grow in their confidence is inspiring.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
Our first session is about creating a foundation of trust. I will listen closely, ask thoughtful questions, and work with you to explore goals and concerns. I will give you space to be heard without pressure or judgment. In this first session, I will provide clarity on the therapeutic process and answer any questions you may have about moving forward.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In our first session, I want to accomplish providing a space where you feel safe, seen, and heard. My goal is to get a sense of what's bringing you in, understand what you're hoping for, and be able to collaborate on a plan that feels right for you.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I want clients to know that in your therapy sessions, I am not the boss. We are partners in connecting the dots between your inner world, your body, and the goals you want to work towards. While I don't have all the answers, I am committed to helping you explore, grow, and find your way through life's journey.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love reading, it does not matter what the genre, as long as there is a good storyline. In my time off, I also enjoy spending time with my family, trying new food, traveling, and watching reality TV shows.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
At my core, I'm a nurturer. I show up for the people I love & care about, and that same presence carries into how I move through the world.
