About Elizabeth

Hello, I am Elizabeth Ishola, and I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor with over 5 years of experience. I am passionate about supporting individuals with various backgrounds and experiences ready to start their personal growth journey, particularly women of color. My clients often deal with challenges such as depression, anxiety, grief, life transitions, trauma, self-esteem, relationship issues, women's health and perinatal concerns.

I operate from a person-centered lens, believing that strong client relationships are key to therapy. I draw from CBT to help clients challenge and replace negative beliefs, and EFT to deepen understanding of emotional experience and how thoughts and beliefs impact behaviors. I work collaboratively to support clients in reaching their personal goals.

We all have had experiences that have shaped who we are, whether good or bad. Often these are things that were out of our control. You may not have had control over these experiences but you do have control of what you do about them. You get to decide the person you want to be and I want to support you in becoming that person.

Get to know Elizabeth

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?

I chose to become a counselor because I do not believe we were meant to live life in isolation. Community is so important and often when we experience challenges we may isolate and cut ourselves off from the very support system we may need. My hope is to remind others, as I have often been reminded, that you are not alone and utilizing your support network, such as your community and therapy, can help you access the support and strength you need to get through challenges.

What types of clients do you work best with?

I have worked with women and men of varying ages and backgrounds. I am particularly passionate about working with women of color.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?

The bravest thing we can do is to not just recognize we need support but to actively seek it out. In looking to start your therapy journey you have already done something incredibly challenging. If you can do that, just imagine what else you are capable of.

What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?

Therapy is a conversation. It is a space for you to share about your experiences as well identify goals you would like to work towards. As it progresses it is a space where you can be honest and be challenged in a supportive environment as we work towards the agreed upon goals.

What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?

I value kindness. A kind person is someone who is intentional in not just what they say but how they say it. A kind person can say hard things and challenge someone from a place of care and concern without judgement. That is how I strive to show up as a counselor.

How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?

I recognize that every client brings their own unique experiences, goals, values and strengths. I take the time to better understand my clients and collaboratively work with them to create a treatment plan tailored to best fit their needs and achieve their goals.
