About Chiquana
Chiquana Bryant is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of North Carolina. She has been employed in the mental health field since 2006 starting as a community supports worker/case manager. She became a licensed therapist in 2012 and has gained a wealth of knowledge from the experiences of those she's counseled. She's come across all walks of life from small children and caregivers with a history of trauma and attachment issues, oppositional and defiant teenagers with behavioral challenges, and adults who are figuring out underlying causes of mental and emotional challenges potentially picked up over the course of their lives.
Most recently, she has been a therapist in a close-custody prison. She experienced what society may consider "the worst of the worst" human beings completely changing their thinking patterns and behaviors to be promoted and/or released from prison after gaining a new level of insight and motivation to succeed.
Chiquana brings knowledge of attachment issues, especially between young children and their primary caregivers. Utilizing play therapy and addressing traumatic experiences will aid in a parent's ability to help their child (and themselves) regulate emotions. The same goes for adults who have faced trauma over the course of their lives — narrative therapy and discussing the circumstances involving the trauma tends to help alleviate symptoms of paranoia and trust issues, depression, anxiety, anger, and mood disorders. Chiquana believes that any situation can be handled with a listening ear, knowledge of how the mind and emotions work, and patience.
Chiquana believes that the most important part of the therapy process is the therapeutic relationship. Being able to relate, empathize with, and understand you without any judgment or bias will allow her to best serve and assist you through whatever mental and emotional challenges you may face. However, without creating a relationship of trust and genuine regard for the therapy process, it will be impossible to see results. Please allow her to assist you by forming a therapeutic alliance that will help you to achieve your goals. Depression, anxiety, stress, behavioral challenges, relationship issues, and trauma can be turned around with the right attitude, persistence, and knowledge!

"I understand that we all have our own personal and/or relational challenges at certain points in life and may need a little extra help in progressing through those challenges to access the quality of life that we hope to reach."

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I wanted to help people understand how to deal with hardships in life, and let them know that there was someone out there who cares and would not judge them for whatever those challenges may be. I wanted to be for others what I've wanted others to be for me when I've faced struggles in life.
What types of clients to you work with best?
I work with those who have a desire to learn about what's causing mental and emotional distress, and then actively putting forth the effort to make necessary changes. I also work best with people who are receptive to someone with a sense of humor, straight-forward, honest, and relaxed in the therapy session.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I really enjoy working with people who may have been counted out, who may have troubled and/or traumatic histories, and may feel like outcasts because of what has happened to them. I feel I am very empathetic and can help others feel worthy, that they can bounce back from anything, and are stronger from the difficulties they've faced. No problem is too big or situation too hard that you can't grow from it and become a better person.
What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?
That the bigger the problem, the greater the lesson and the more significant the outcome when you overcome. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with you just because you have faced something that requires a little extra help to get through!
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
You can expect a relaxed and thoughtful conversation about who you are as a person, what your main concerns are, and what you would like to accomplish through the therapy process. You will experience a caring and genuine therapist who has your best interest in mind.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
I want the individual feel safe, that he/she can relax and not feel judged, and that the therapy process may take different forms, but will always have the end-goal in mind.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I love traveling, watching movies, playing and watching sports (I've played softball all my life), eating out, hanging out with my family, riding my four-wheeler, playing games (spades, taboo, heads up, etc.), SLEEPING, reading, bowling, camping, and just so many other things!
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I'm a human being and very understanding, but I also want you to put the skills and tools learned through therapy to use so that you can overcome and become your greatest self.
