Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I decided to become a counselor because I’ve witnessed, both personally and professionally, the deep impact of being unseen, unheard, or misunderstood—especially for those of us navigating the world at the intersection of multiple identities. I understand how isolating it can feel to carry the weight of expectations, navigate spaces where your voice is diminished, or be expected to remain strong at all costs. I also understand how healing it can be to have someone sit with you—not to fix you, but to witness, affirm, and help you rediscover your own voice.

Throughout my life and career, I’ve seen how often people from historically marginalized backgrounds are left out of meaningful conversations about wellness. Whether due to systemic barriers, cultural stigma, or simply not seeing themselves reflected in mental health spaces, many suffer in silence. I wanted to change that. I became a counselor to be a part of creating the kind of therapeutic space I wish more people had access to—one that is inclusive, compassionate, and grounded in cultural awareness.

Professionally, my work has spanned community mental health, psychiatric hospitals, higher education, and private practice. These experiences have deepened my understanding of how trauma, identity, and systemic oppression can affect mental and emotional well-being. I bring that awareness into every session, not only as a clinician, but as someone committed to advocacy and social justice. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all therapy. Instead, I approach each person with curiosity, respect, and a deep commitment to helping them feel safe, understood, and empowered.

At the heart of my work is a belief in the power of connection. I believe healing happens in relationships—when we feel truly seen and accepted. It’s not about having all the answers; it’s about creating space to explore the questions, hold the pain, and nurture hope. Being a counselor allows me to do that every day, and it’s a privilege I hold with deep gratitude.

For those who have ever felt like therapy wasn’t meant for them, or that their experiences were too complicated to unpack—I want you to know there’s room for you here. I became a counselor so that people who’ve felt left out of the healing process could finally have a seat at the table—and know they belong.

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work best with clients who are ready to engage in the therapeutic process with openness, curiosity, and a willingness to do the inner work. Therapy is not always easy—it requires vulnerability, reflection, and at times, sitting with discomfort. But if you're in a place where you're ready to grow, explore your patterns, and commit to yourself, then I’m here to walk with you every step of the way.

I especially enjoy working with women, emerging adults, and everyone who mayb be navigating life transitions, burnout, identity exploration, and the pressures of high expectations. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of who they are outside of the roles they’ve been expected to play. Together, we work to untangle those experiences, reconnect with your authentic self, and move toward greater clarity and confidence.

My approach focuses heavily on building self-awareness, self-compassion, and accountability. I believe that once we start to better understand the “why” behind our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, we’re better equipped to make intentional, values-based choices. At the same time, I help clients quiet their inner critic and develop more compassionate ways of relating to themselves. Growth doesn’t come from shame—it comes from understanding, acceptance, and a commitment to doing better, not being perfect.

I also value honesty and collaboration in the therapy room. I encourage my clients to show up as they are and to be open to challenging themselves, even when it feels uncomfortable. You don’t need to have everything figured out—you just need to be willing to explore. If you’re ready to take a deeper look within, stay open to learning, and take responsibility for your growth, then we’ll likely work well together. Therapy with me is a partnership—one rooted in trust, truth, and the belief that change is possible.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

Client should know that I take therapy and their healing seriously. It is important to me that they are ready for this journey and the work that it requires.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

One thing that defines me is my love for exploring nature, whether it’s hiking new trails or spending a quiet day at the beach—these moments help me stay grounded and inspired.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In your first session with me, you can expect a warm, welcoming space where you’re invited to share what brings you to counseling and what you hope to gain from the process. We'll take time to explore your story at your pace, and you'll have the opportunity to ask any questions about therapy or my approach. I want to understand not just the challenges you're facing, but also the goals, values, and strengths that shape your experience. Together, we'll begin to identify what you’d like to work toward—whether it’s finding clarity, managing stress, building confidence, or navigating life transitions. This first session is all about laying the foundation for a supportive, collaborative relationship where your voice and needs lead the way.
