What can clients expect in their first session with you?
I strive to provide a positive therapeutic setting for all my clients, based on unconditional positive regard, empathy, and authenticity. I will attentively listen to understand you and the difficulties you are experiencing, connecting the mind, body and spirit. I will draw upon my training in psychotherapy and integration of spirituality to help me help you find practical skills to make the changes you are seeking without imposing my beliefs on you.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
My first step is to get to know you through obtaining as much information as possible about every aspect of your life; your emotional, mental, physical, social, spiritual, economic, and career characteristics. The more you share the better equipped the both of us will be to work towards your goals. I will need your collaboration as we identify issues that will be worked on in session and what issues may need other resources such as a nutritionist, physician, or other supportive services. It is important that we be open and honest with each other in order for appropriate counseling goals to be established.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I believe an open and honest working relationship between therapist and client is essential in the therapeutic process to building trust between therapist and client as this honesty and openness will assist in enhancing treatment outcomes. I am comfortable working with individuals from diverse cultures and lifestyles and feel being accepting, objective, respectful, and genuine are characteristics essential in working with clients. Overall, counseling is a process in which you the individual gain knowledge and tools that will facilitate continued growth and development after therapy has ended.
