Why did you decide to become a counselor?
I love to learn about psychology and people. I like to see people growing, healthy, overcoming, and achieving. Counseling is a good way to understand and alleviate human suffering.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with people who are struggling with things like anxiety, depression, self-esteem, stress, anger, trauma, and relationships. I work best with clients that show up, are consistent, and desire to grow and be better.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with most clients. I particularly enjoy working with clients that are authentic/honest, willing to work, have a sense of humor, and can be positive about themselves and their situation.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Positive therapeutic alliances, a mutual willingness to do the work, and sound interventions are significant contributors to positive therapeutic outcomes. Counselors can be helpful with all their knowledge and experience. However, at the end of the day, it is a mutual exchange. Just like the student that does the little things and their homework is likely to be successful academically, the client who does the therapeutic assignments is likely to make good progress.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I was initially drawn to the name. At a certain point, it doesn't just work to survive, it works to THRIVE. I think most people know something about struggle and decline. If we are honest, I think most people would prefer to work to thrive. Also, for the most part, I align with the Thriveworks missions statement. "Help people live happy and successful lives."
What inspires you?
Arts, Music, and films. Creativity, love, and achievement. I like to see athletes perform at a really high level.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In the first session, I generally try to get to know someone, give them a chance to get to know me and get a better sense of their goals. I do tend to spend a bit of time on background information. Based on the client's goals, I will share thoughts about modalities and interventions I think they will benefit from.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I like sports. I like to watch football. If Im being active, it is often related to triathlon. I enjoy watching movies, reading, and traveling.
