Amy Hunnicutt is a licensed therapist with over 11 years of counseling experience. Amy believes any number of life events can make it difficult to "show up" in our relationships, workplaces, and for ourselves the way we want to. She loves working with individuals to help them identify the things that are keeping them from living a life they love. Amy specializes in helping people with depression, ADHD, grief, parenting issues, and adjusting to life transitions. Another group of people she feels passion for helping are those struggling with their faith and how they view the world. Amy understands as we grow and learn our worldview that we've had, sometimes for years, can change and this can be a painful and confusing time. She offers a place to "hash out" life's tough questions.

Amy received a Master's in Counseling from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. Amy approaches therapy using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and also a solution-focused approach. As someone with professional experience who has needed support showing up as her "best self," Amy understands having a judgment-free space to learn more about who you are and what you need to be successful, as you define it, can be a game changer. Please reach out, she's happy to join you through this part of your story!

Get to know Amy

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I believe everyone needs an impartial "sounding board" when they are going through transitions, a loss, or making a difficult decision. I enjoy being that person for other people.

What types of clients do you work with best?

Therapy is at its best when the client is at a place where they are ready to delve into the "tough stuff". I am here for it and along for the ride.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I love helping those with executive functioning issues ( focus problems, ADHD, etc.) find a routine and schedule they can use to show up as their best selves. I love being a support for those struggling with difficult faith based questions, from any religion, and how those beliefs impact identity and relationships. I also have a passion for helping people struggling with identity and new life adjustments.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

That therapy is a judgement free and works best when the client doesn't keep secrets. We can't help you with what you don't tell us! It's not on a time table. Be patient with the process and yourself.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

From the first conversation it sounded like a great fit for me! I love a collaborative team and the flexibility for me and my future clients.

What inspires you?

People choosing to break harmful cycles, make hard decisions, and change to become their best self. Seeing fractured relationships heal. Marvel movies (haha)

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

Getting to know each other, learn about the therapy process and goal setting.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

To learn what they want to get out of therapy. Let them know what they can expect from me as a therapist.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I believe, given and using the right tools, you have the ability to make the changes you want to.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I'm a reader. ( I love mysteries and am a big Harry Potter fan) I love going to/watching movies. (I'm a Marvel fan) Outdoors: hiking and being near water. I also enjoy listening to and going to see live music.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I am hopeful, even through difficult circumstances. I am able to see hardships as temporary.
