"As one who has experienced personal trauma, I have an authentic understanding of how we are impacted by life circumstances and how building new life skills can empower us once again and help us to overcome our fear."
Get to know Sarah
Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a social worker because I wanted to help people in this world and I felt that becoming a clinical social worker, I could help change people's lives for the better. I wanted people to know that there is someone out there that is willing to listen to them and help to overcome their issues.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work well with youth, teenagers, young adults, and older adults. I work with people who are open and honest and willing to work on their issues. I have worked with various cultures/ethnicities in Michigan.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
That the healing process can take time and that everyone has the potential to change themselves if one works at it. You create your own happiness and the past does not define you.
What can clients expect in their first session with you and in the early stages of therapy?
Clients can be expected to be asked many questions about their background, concerns, and presenting problems. I am laid back, open, and honest. I do also like to laugh with my clients during sessions.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I build rapport with the clients and learn what their likes and dislikes are. I try to find the best approach to help clients feel understood, comfortable, and belonging. I want my clients to feel comfortable and feel like they can be opened. I can change approaches quickly to meat client's unique needs.
