About Joe
Joe Jaster is a Licensed Professional Counselor with 25 years of experience. He specializes in therapy for substance abuse, depression, anxiety, anger management, stress, and relationship issues for adults and teens, and has significant experience counseling adolescents and adults in substance abuse, usage, and addiction. He has a background in both individual and group counseling and has worked with diverse clientele. Joe completed a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Detroit and a Master of Arts in Guidance & Counseling from Oakland University.
Joe believes that it’s important to focus on the causes of the issues that his clients face, as well as the everyday external complications that impact their lives. Joe sees great value in exploring Relapse, Recovery, and Relationships with his clients, which are three major components of substance abuse.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?
My passion is to assist my clients in improving their lives, changing their thought processes and restoring calm and balance to their worlds.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I have a background in both individual and group counseling and have worked with a diverse clientele of different backgrounds, ages and genders. I enjoy working with anyone who needs help improving their world.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
I am one of the most nonjudgmental individuals they will ever meet. I only have the right to judge one person, MYSELF.
What inspires you?
I enjoy facing the challenges of the patient and to be a part of their recovery system.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
The first session will consist of gathering information, getting to know the patient, their challenges and expectations.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
One of the most important parts of the first session is to begin to acquire a trust relationship.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?
I will do everything I can to meet my patient's schedule and expectations.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I go golfing although not very good, enjoy walking my dogs, watching college football (U of M) is my favorite and spending quality time with my family.
