About Provider

About Jennifer

I'm a Licensed Counselor with 3 years of experience in the mental health field. I'm passionate about helping adolescents, children, adults, and families reach their goals in order to live a more fulfilled life. I completed my Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Western Michigan University. My role as a therapist is to provide a safe space where you can feel relaxed and move at your own pace. I offer a client-centered approach and believe you are the expert in your own life. I'm here to help guide you toward your goals.

I offer a non-judgmental approach and a safe space where we'll work together to help you navigate the roadmap to your life and be the healthiest version of yourself. I utilize various approaches including mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavior therapy skills.

Life, unfortunately, has no road map or single, final destination. Many find themselves searching for counseling when they feel lost, defeated, depressed, anxious, or hurt. I'm here to offer a safe space to those looking to make a change. I focus on helping you reach your goals by exploring behaviors and thought patterns. I focus heavily on helping you learn skills and tools to reduce your stress and empower you to make change where it counts. If you're ready to work, please schedule an appointment with me today.

Get to know Jennifer

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I decided to become a therapist after I personally experienced how chronic health issues and trauma can impact a family system. I wanted to be there to help others with similar experiences so they did not have to experience these things alone:

What types of clients do you work with best?

I work with a diverse clientele including children, teens and adults. I have worked with clients from various culture and religious backgrounds. I also have experience working with the LGBTQ plus population.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

I enjoy working with clients who are motivated to do the work and eager to get started. I will always meet my clients at the stage of change they are at. I like clients who will ask questions and who at times, may even challenge me. This is how we learn and grow.

What's one thing you wish all clients knew?

I wish all clients knew that they are not alone. There is a light at the end of this tunnel. Even in your darkest moment, I will offer you a helping hand..

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I chose Thriveworks for its diversity and ability to work independently. As someone with chronic illness myself, I also appreciate being able to work virtually while meeting my clients needs.

What inspires you?

There are so many things that inspire me. I grew up with a mother who never gave up, despite many struggles. I am inspired by humans everyday, their empathy and strength and ability to love one another.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

In our first session we will explore confidentiality and work through the intake process. I will take a detailed history of your family, life stressors, reasons for seeking therapy, etc. we will begin to discuss skills that will be introduced as we continue to work together. My goal is to create a warm and inviting space where my clients feel comfortable.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I would like to get to know my client, their strengths and areas they would like to improve upon. I will ask questions to get a detailed client history and we will begin to discuss the expectations of therapy and the client’s goals.

What should clients know about you before scheduling a first counseling session?

I am direct and honest. I am not afraid to challenge my clients but will always be there to offer skills and support. Therapy can be frightening and difficult at times. My role is to offer support, tools, and guidance. On a personal note I do live with a chronic illness. I work hard so this does not impact my clients. I have a medical alert service dog who assists me as needed.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

I am an avid reader and love movies. I love training my dogs and spending time with my cat. I enjoy the gym and nature hikes. I also enjoy writing poetry from time to time.

What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?

I am nonjudgmental with a large heart. I am an animal enthusiast who loves nature and advocates for my fellow humans. I am a hard worker and will always fight for the under dog. I am also very inquisitive and looking to expand my understanding of the world.
