Molly Alvord is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Pennsylvania and Maryland with over 17 years of experience. Working in a variety of settings, Molly has had the pleasure of helping people of all ages and backgrounds by providing individual, couples, family, and group therapy. Her specialties include anxiety, stress, depression, and relationship issues.

Molly earned her Masters of Social Work at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, School of Social Work. She takes a humanistic approach that involves unconditional positive regard with a blend of techniques including person-centered, motivational, solution-focused, cognitive, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), and mindfulness to work with the client to find the methods that will fit their needs.

Molly starts where the client is and helps them explore their reasons for choosing therapy and identify their goals. Employing a variety of techniques to meet the client’s needs, she empowers her clients to use their strengths to make positive changes in their lives.

Why did you decide to become a counselor?

I was helped through a difficult time in my life my by a LCSW. Eventually I realized that it is what I was meant to do.

What types of clients do you work with best?

People that are interested in working to understand themselves and want to improve their lives.

What type of clients are you most excited to work with?

Anyone that wants to make positive changes in their life.

What’s one thing you wish all clients knew?

We all have issues, choosing to work on yours is a sign of strength not weakness.

Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

I believe in their approach to make counseling more accessible for clients and promote a positive work environment for clinicians.

What inspires you?

Love, nature, music, knowledge.

What can clients expect in their first session with you?

To leave feeling heard and validated.

What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?

I want them to feel safe to share anything.

What do you do for fun/on your time off?

Play with my dogs, spend time with my wife, hang out with friends and family, garden, photography.
