Get to know Makedah
Why did you decide to become a mental health provider?
I became a therapist because I wanted to make therapy accessible and culturally sensitive for marginalized communities who often face barriers like stigma, cost, and mistrust in historically biased systems.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients who are curious and open to discovering more about themselves.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with neurodivergent clients who are seeking a safe, affirming space to show up as their full selves and who are looking to build upon their existing, inherent strengths to navigate life's challenges.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
It takes an enormous amount of courage to seek help for your mental and emotional health.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to practice at Thriveworks because of the flexibility and work/life balance offered to its clinicians. I also value being supported by their administrative staff who are responsive and accessible if help is needed.
What inspires you?
People's resilience and ability to bounce back after going through unimaginable, difficult experiences.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
You can expect me to answer any questions you may have and build rapport with you so we can get to know each other better.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In my first session, I want to ask clients questions about their background and why they're seeking therapy to develop an understanding of their experiences and to begin the treatment planning process.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
You don’t have to have the "right words" or know exactly where to start—just bring yourself. I’ll meet you where you are, and we’ll figure things out together.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
I enjoy yoga, cooking, being in nature, and hanging out with my dog, Winnie.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
The belief that all people are inherently deserving of compassion and grace.
