About Ashley
Ashley Shiff is a Licensed Certified Social Worker-Clinical with over 12 years of experience in different settings and with a wide variety of clients. She has a special interest in helping those experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and life transitions and adjustments. Ashley has worked as a psychiatric social work fellow at LSU Medical Center. She is currently pursuing her certification in narcissistic abuse treatment to master specialized trauma care for survivors.
Ashley has a Master’s in Social Work from Tulane University. She favors psychodynamic therapy, which helps to connect past experiences and upbringing to a client's current feelings and behaviors, ideally leading to positive change. In addition, Ashley utilizes cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and trauma-informed modalities.

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I have always had an interest in psychology and what motivates people. Being an empath by nature, I thought social work would be a good career choice for me.
What types of clients do you work with best?
Teens and adults.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Therapy can be both short-term and long-term depending on goals. It should be consistent and both parties should be committed.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?

What inspires you?
Helping others and being in nature.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
A thorough life history, discussion of what brings them to therapy at this time and setting goals.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
Getting to know each other, building trust and setting expectations for therapy.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
I consider myself a good listener and empathic. I also like to occasionally bring some humor to the session and quote relevant music lyrics!
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
Yoga, reading, listening to music, spending time with family, friends and my two rescue pups.

There is always time in life to move forward and make positive change.
