About Kate
I'm Kate Hutchens, a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with 20 years of experience supporting adults ready for meaningful, lasting emotional work. I specialize in anxiety, depression, grief and loss, ADHD, relationships, fertility, pregnancy and postpartum, parenting, special needs parenting, and women's issues. As a lesbian-identifying therapist, I bring both clinical expertise and lived perspective to my work with LGBTQIA+ clients, supporting exploration of identity, sexuality, and relationships.
I use an integrative, evidence-informed approach drawing from person-centered therapy, ACT, mindfulness, and feminist and humanistic frameworks. My style is collaborative, direct, and flexible, helping clients deepen self-understanding, shift unhelpful patterns, and move toward a more connected, fulfilling life.
Therapy with me is an active, collaborative process — we explore what feels stuck, uncover patterns that no longer serve you, and build tools for meaningful change. Whatever you're carrying, you don't have to figure it out alone. I'd love to support you in that work. I hope you'll reach out and schedule an appointment.

"As a therapist, I offer a warm and supportive space where clients feel empowered to grow, heal, and thrive. "

Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I was drawn to this work by a deep interest in understanding people and what helps them heal, grow, and feel more connected to themselves and others. Over time, that interest became a commitment to supporting individuals through life’s more complex and vulnerable experiences. Becoming a therapist felt like a natural path where I could combine empathy, insight, and practical tools to help people create meaningful change.
What types of clients do you work best with?
I work best with adults who are ready to engage in meaningful, reflective work and are open to exploring patterns, emotions, and change. Many of my clients are navigating anxiety, grief, ADHD, relationship challenges, or major life transitions such as fertility, parenting, or identity development. I also work well with LGBTQIA+ clients and those seeking a collaborative, affirming space that balances support with honest, thoughtful feedback.
How do you tailor therapy to meet each client’s unique needs?
I tailor therapy by taking the time to understand each client’s goals, history, and what feels most important to them. I draw from an integrative, evidence-informed approach and adjust my style to match each person’s needs, whether that means being more structured, exploratory, or skills-focused. Throughout the process, I collaborate closely with clients, checking in and adapting as they grow and their needs evolve.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew about therapy, mental health, or the healing process?
Healing isn’t about having everything figured out, it’s about being willing to show up honestly and stay curious about yourself. Real change often comes from small, consistent shifts rather than big breakthroughs. Therapy works best as a collaborative process, where you don’t have to do it alone.
What personal experiences or values inform your practice as a therapist/provider?
My work is grounded in the belief that people are capable of meaningful change when they feel truly seen, supported, and understood. I value authenticity, collaboration, and creating a space where clients can explore their experiences without judgment while being gently challenged toward growth. Both my clinical experience and lived perspective inform a practice that is affirming, relational, and focused on helping clients build more connected, fulfilling lives.
