Why did you decide to become a counselor or psychiatric provider?
I decided to become a counselor because I enjoy working with others to improve different aspects of their lives. Further, as an individual that has utilized a counselor of my own, I understand how impactful a counselor can be towards one's growth and meeting one's goals. I strive to emulate the understanding and empowering nature of the wonderful counselors I know both personally and professionally.
What types of clients do you work with best?
I work best with clients that are brave enough to put their time and effort towards healing and improving their mental state. I think that admitting that one needs help is incredibly courageous and I look forward to working with individuals that took that leap despite potential apprehensions.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I am excited to work with clients of all ages. The bulk of my experience thus far has been working with children, adolescents, and young adults, however I am looking forward to working with a wide variety of clients.
What's one thing you wish all clients knew?
Healing is not linear and setbacks are not failures.
Why did you choose to practice at Thriveworks?
I chose to work at Thriveworks because of the network of passionate counselors that I have the privilege of learning with and from to best serve the clients in my care.
What inspires you?
The individuals that I had the privilege of working alongside throughout graduate school, including professors, supervisors, and peers, offer a large source of inspiration to me in terms of my passion for the Mental Health Counseling field as well as my drive to be the best source of support I am able to be for my clients.
What can clients expect in their first session with you?
With me, a first session will typically be about the two of us getting to know each other and creating a counseling plan together. Some clients prefer to jump right in, while others prefer to spend some time chatting about favorite movies and finding common ground before they feel comfortable opening up. I think that honoring this individuality between each and every client is what allows us to establish impactful counseling relationships with clients and ultimately assists in clients reaching their counseling goals.
What do you want to accomplish with an individual in their first session?
In first sessions, I typically work to establish initial rapport with clients and to create a plan of treatment together. I believe that a solid foundation between counselor and client largely assists in facilitating progress within sessions and that establishing goals together assists in making both client and counselor feel as though they are working together as a united front.
What should clients know about you before scheduling a first session?
Before scheduling with me, clients should know that I strongly believe in allowing them the space to exercise their autonomy while I work alongside them as a person of support, rather than an individual simply offering advice. I am not a better expert on their lives than they are, and it is important to me to honor their lived experiences and individuality.
What do you do for fun/on your time off?
In my free time, I enjoy hanging out with friends, playing video games, reading, and spending time outside.
What's one thing about you that defines you (non-professional)?
One thing that defines me is my sense of humor. I believe that humor offers a gateway to connection.
Can you tell us about a success you had with a client?
One strong point of success that I had, was when a child client of mine that had difficulty speaking was able to express their feelings through the use of Child Centered Play Therapy and I realized I could understand what he was telling me despite him not being able to explain it in depth, verbally.
